HilltopSecurities Public Finance Announces Banker Promotions

DALLAS, August 24, 2018 – Hilltop Securities Inc.’s public finance division is pleased to announce the following promotions for 2018:

Mark Galvin
Managing Director, Investment Banker

Mark Galvin has been promoted to Managing Director. He focuses on advising on a wide range of fixed income transactions for issuers in Florida, including the issuance of utility bonds, certificates of participation, general obligation bonds, higher education and healthcare financing and more. Galvin has more than 30 years of experience in the industry and joined HilltopSecurities in 2002. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida where he earned a Master of Business Administration. He holds Series 7, 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

Larry Given
Managing Director, Investment Banker

Larry Given has been promoted to Managing Director. He focuses on advising Arizona local governments on various financing transactions, including Utility Revenue Bonds, Sales Tax Revenue Bonds, Lease/Purchase Financing and more. Given has 40 years of experience in the Arizona public finance industry and has served as lead investment banker on more than 400 separate transactions. He joined HilltopSecurities in 2015. Prior to joining the firm, he was a partner at Peacock, Hislop, Staley & Given, Inc. He is a graduate of the American Graduate School of International Management where he earned a Master in International Management. He holds Series 7, 24, 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

Joe Morrow
Managing Director, Investment Banker

Joe Morrow has been promoted to Managing Director. He is HilltopSecurities’ primary banker for cities, schools, special districts and counties in Houston and southeast Texas. Morrow has extensive municipal finance experience including, but not limited to: general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, lease purchase financing, financial assistance applications to government agencies, debt structuring and rating agency strategies. He has more than 26 years of experience and joined HilltopSecurities in 1992. Prior to joining the firm, Morrow served as a bond analyst for the Municipal Advisory Council of Texas. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington where he earned a Bachelor of Science in economics. He holds Series 7, 50 and 63 licenses.

 

Tina Peterman
Managing Director, Investment Banker

Tina Peterman has been promoted to Managing Director. She focuses on providing banking, technical and qualitative support for the firm’s financial advisory and underwriting clients across various sectors and credits including, but not limited to: water and sewer, special districts and authorities, schools, airports, toll roads and tax increment reinvestment zones. Peterman has more than 20 years of industry experience and joined HilltopSecurities in 2014. Prior to joining the firm, she served with RBC Capital Markets and J.P. Morgan Securities. Peterman is a graduate of Trinity University where she earned a Bachelor of Science. She holds Series 7, 26, 50, 53, 63 and 65 licenses.

 

Jason Simmons
Managing Director, Investment Banker

Jason Simmons has been promoted to Managing Director. Based in Colorado, he focuses on general government (general obligation, sales tax revenue, certificates of participation), transportation and special district financings, including fixed rate and variable rate debt as well as private placements. Simmons has more than 22 years of experience in the industry and joined HilltopSecurities in 2012. Prior to joining the firm, he served with Piper Jaffray, Wells Fargo and William M. Mercer Investment Consulting. Simmons also served as president of the Colorado Municipal Bond Dealers Association. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Denver where he earned a Master of Business Administration. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst® and holds Series 7, 50 and 63 licenses.

 

Maria Fernanda Urbina
Managing Director, Investment Banker

Maria Fernanda Urbina has been promoted to Managing Director. She provides technical support to cities, counties, utilities, airports, school districts and other entities in far West Texas, and she has structured and priced transactions totaling more than $3 billion in bonds. Urbina joined HilltopSecurities in 2001. Prior to joining the firm, she served as a financial analyst for the Texas Water Development Board. She is a board member of the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and a supporting member of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. Urbina is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics. She holds Series 7, 50 and 63 licenses.

 

Michelle Aragon
Director, Investment Banker

Michelle Aragon has been promoted to Director. She focuses on providing quantitative financial analysis, structuring capital improvement plan models and analyzing credit and cash flows to school districts, college districts, cities, economic development corporations, counties and utility systems. Aragon joined HilltopSecurities in 2003 and serves as a member of the Women in Public Finance Association — Texas Chapter. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. She holds Series 7, 50 and 63 licenses.

 

Tim Webb
Director, Investment Banker

Tim Webb has been promoted to Director. He focuses on student loan revenue bond finance and has helped issuers across the U.S. with a variety of financing-related services including, but not limited to: cash flow analysis, document preparation and review, feasibility analysis of projects and the development of computer modeling programs. Webb has 30 years of industry experience and joined HilltopSecurities in 1999. Prior to joining the firm, he served with EVEREN Securities, Llama Company and Ehrlich-Bober & Co. He is currently a member of the Education Finance Council and is a graduate of Washington and Lee University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in physics-engineering. He holds Series 7, 50 and 63 licenses.

 

Joey Dierker
Vice President, Investment Banker

Joey Dierker has been promoted to Vice President. He provides a broad range of financing solutions—both new issues and refinancings—to municipalities, including school districts, cities, counties and special districts. Dierker also assists issuers with voter education and deal structuring as well as coordinating the sale and ultimate closing of a transaction. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in economics. He holds Series 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

Petia Moutaftchieva
Vice President, Disclosure

Petia Moutaftchieva has been promoted to Vice President. She focuses on providing continuing disclosure services to a variety of issuers. Moutaftchieva joined HilltopSecurities in 2014. Prior to joining the firm, she served with UBS’ Wealth Management Group in Dallas and J.P. Morgan Chase Bank. Moutaftchieva is a graduate of Southern Methodist University where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance, and the IE Business School, where she earned a Master in International Relations. She holds Series 7, 50, 52 and 66 licenses.

 

Dan Turbenson
Vice President, Disclosure

Dan Turbenson has been promoted to Vice President. He focuses on monitoring material events changes, performing research and analysis on issuer compliance and reporting for the firm’s financial advisory and underwriting clients. Turbenson joined HilltopSecurities in 2010, serving with the firm’s Operations department. Since then, he’s served in various support roles, including time with the firm’s corporate and municipal desks. In 2012, Turbenson joined the firm’s Continuing Disclosure department as an analyst. Turbenson is a graduate of Southern Methodist University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics with financial applications.

 

William Bermudez
Assistant Vice President, Investment Banker

Will Bermudez has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. He focuses on supporting the firm’s senior bankers with quantitative financial analyses (refunding and credit), debt structurings, cash flow models and continuing disclosure for the firm’s municipal, county, local government, and secondary- and higher-education clients. Bermudez joined HilltopSecurities in 2014 and is a graduate of the University of South Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science in finance. He holds Series 7, 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

Karla Gonzales
Assistant Vice President, Investment Banker

Karla Gonzales has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. She focuses on providing technical and analytical investment banking services for cities, counties, school districts, higher education and other local government issuers. In her role, Gonzales provides quantitative financial analyses, models proposed financing structures and analyzes credit and cash flow. She also prepares rating agency and bond insurer presentations, refunding analyses, document preparation and review for debt offerings. Gonzales joined HilltopSecurities in 2014 and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas where she earned a Bachelor of Science. She holds Series 7, 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

Luis Ramos
Assistant Vice President, Investment Banker

Luis Ramos has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. He focuses on the transaction, execution and quantitative structuring of both tax exempt and taxable debt financing for counties, cities, school districts and other municipal entities. Ramos joined HilltopSecurities in 2015. Prior to that, he served with George K. Baum & Company in Albuquerque where he was responsible for structuring diverse financings that encompassed a broad range of credits and revenue streams. Ramos is a graduate of the University of New Mexico where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in bilingual education. He holds Series 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

Peter Bailey
Associate, Investment Banker

Peter Bailey has been promoted to Associate. He focuses on providing the firm’s clients with financial advisory, technical and analytical investment banking services including, but not limited to: bond-sizing support, spreadsheet modeling, refunding analyses, rating agency presentations, credit analysis and continuing disclosure. Bailey joined HilltopSecurities in 2016 and is a graduate of Brown University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics. He holds Series 7, 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

Eric Farber
Associate, Investment Banker

Eric Farber has been promoted to Associate. He focuses on providing in-depth quantitative analysis on tax-exempt and taxable transactions for state and local governments, public power, utilities, transportation and higher education issuers. He joined HilltopSecurities in 2017 and is a graduate of Rutgers University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics. He holds Series 7, 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

 


Chris Freeman
Associate, Investment Banker

Chris Freeman has been promoted to Associate. He focuses on providing analytical financial advisory and continuing disclosure services for cities, counties, school districts, higher education institutions and other local government issuers. Freeman joined HilltopSecurities in 2016 and is a member of the Municipal Advisory Council of Texas. He is a graduate of Texas Christian University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in economics. He holds Series 50, 52 and 63 licenses.

 

Zac Lara
Associate, Investment Banker

Zac Lara has been promoted to Associate. He focuses on providing analytical and project support for the firm’s clients including bond sizing, spreadsheet modeling, refunding analyses and documentation review. Lara joined HilltopSecurities in 2016 and is a graduate of Arizona State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics. He holds Series 50, 52 and 63 licenses.
