The Fed Cuts 50 in an Emergency Move

By unanimous vote, the Fed cut the overnight funds target rate by 50 basis points this morning in an emergency move to protect the economic expansion from the spreading coronavirus. In a prepared statement, Fed officials said “the fundamentals of the U.S. economy remain strong,” but “the coronavirus poses evolving risks to economic activity.” Plain and simple. The threat is real.
