Yesterday, the Department of Labor reported initial jobless claims fell from 781k to 684k for the week ending March 20th. Although these first-time filings for state unemployment benefits are still more than three-times the pre-pandemic level, last week represented the first time since the pandemic began that new claims were below 700k.
